The culture
Weed, cigarettes, and rough language are pretty normal at a lot of courses. That's a hard sell for a parent bringing a seven-year-old out for the first time.
Right now, disc golf isn't a very welcoming place for young kids. We're a growing group of players working to change that, so the next generation actually has a place in this sport.
If we want disc golf to really grow, the answer is kids. A sport that makes room for children ends up cleaner and more welcoming for everybody. That is what NEXTGEN is about, and every disc golfer can be part of it.
For a kid under 12, the course can be a rough place to learn. We want to be honest about why, because you can't fix a problem you won't name.

Most courses are built for adult arms. When every hole is too long to reach, a fun afternoon turns into a frustrating one fast.
Discs light enough for a child to throw are surprisingly hard to find. Too often a kid gets handed a disc they simply can't get off the ground.
There aren't many leagues, clinics, or tournaments made for juniors. When a kid falls in love with the game, there's usually nowhere obvious to go next.

Everyone can play a part in this. These are the three areas we're focused on.
For families to show up, courses and events have to feel safe for kids. We help players and clubs set that tone so parents feel good about coming out.
Kids need junior layouts, youth leagues, and gear that fits them. We work to create those so a kid has a real way into the sport and a reason to stick with it.
Most disc golf media is made for adults. We make content for kids instead, from coaching to coverage to stories that get them excited to play.
Joining Team NEXTGEN means you're willing to be a good example for kids on the course. It's a real commitment to how you show up, not just a name on a list. If you mean it, we'll send you an official NEXTGEN bag tag to carry.
We're working on leagues, clinics, and tournaments made for juniors, including a team format that gives whole families a reason to come out. The goal is to run 100 junior events and then help other leaders run their own. We're just getting started, and event number one is on us.
Kids don't learn or watch the same way adults do. So we make disc golf content built for them.
A kid is a lot more likely to chase something after they've watched another kid do it. So we put young players front and center.
Young players pick things up differently. Our coaching breaks the game down in a way that actually clicks for them.
We make disc golf content that's actually fun to watch when you're eight, not a slower version of the adult stuff.
Kids love watching other kids play. We cover the junior scene like it matters, because it does.
Clubs, stores, and courses can make a bigger, more formal commitment and get certified as junior-friendly. We'll walk you through what that looks like and help you build it into how your community runs.
See the roadmapNEXTGEN runs on people who believe disc golf is better with kids in it. Buy a bag tag, get your course certified, or give directly. Every dollar we raise goes back into junior disc golf, like clinics, lightweight discs, and youth events.
Support the movementNEXTGEN is an independent organization and not yet a registered nonprofit, so contributions are not tax-deductible. Every dollar goes straight to the mission.
